For almost 40 years I have been doing psycho-educational assessments with children, adolescents and adults both privately and for school divisions in Saskatchewan and the North West Territories. These assessments help to identify the presence of potential learning disabilities, attention deficits and other disorders which interfere with the clients’ abilitto achieve their full potential in school, at work and in life.
Utilizing standardized tests, checklists and informal questionnaires, cognitive and academic strengths and weaknesses can be identified and coping strategies can be recommended. Recommendations could include referral to a medical doctor, eye doctor, speech language pathologist, occupational therapist, audiologist, clinical psychologist and/or psychiatrist for further investigation, diagnosis and treatment.
Nelson Canada has taken over responsibility for the WJ workshops. Now that I am no longer conducting workshops across the country, I have decided to focus more of my time on other personal and professional endeavours.
For years, I have heard stories from parents about the challenges of travelling with children with unique needs. I have often been asked for advice on how vacations can be more enjoyable for all members of families with these special children. I saw an opportunity to blend my love of travel and my assessment skills into a new travel idea – a travel agency which specializes in planning vacations for families with children with unique needs.
Helmsing Travel is a full service agency which also offers specialized planning and support for families with children with unique needs. Jodi Hartnell, CTM is co-owner and managing the company. She has over 20 years of experience in the travel industry. She and I want everyone in your family to have a relaxing, fun and exceptional vacation!
